This one-hour informational workshop provides clear, practical, and accessible legal information to help you better understand your rights and navigate common workplace situations in British Columbia with greater confidence.
This session is designed to inform and guide participants by helping them understand their rights, available options, and support resources.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is particularly relevant for:
- Newcomers and immigrants;
- Women and people of diverse gender identities, including LGBTQ2S+ individuals;
- People working in entry-level or frontline positions, including retail, hospitality, care services, warehouses, and other service sectors;
- Anyone interested in better understanding their workplace rights in British Columbia.
What you’ll learn
- Understand the fundamentals of British Columbia’s employment standards, including wages, hours of work, breaks, and basic workplace protections;
- Understand workplace discrimination and harassment under British Columbia’s Human Rights Code, as well as employers’ responsibilities;
- Recognize inappropriate behaviour and sexual harassment in the workplace;
- Explore the steps you can take when workplace rights concerns arise;
- Identify relevant resources and support services available in British Columbia;
- Develop practical strategies for responding safely and effectively to challenging workplace situations.

Participants will also receive resources and reference materials covering:
- Employment rights and standards;
- Community and settlement services;
- Helplines and advocacy organizations;
- Guidance on possible next steps when a workplace issue arises.
About the facilitator
This workshop will be facilitated by a legal educator from the Justice Education Society’s Public Legal Education team.
The facilitator will provide clear and practical legal information to help participants better understand their rights and the resources available to them.
