About the Organisation

Founded in 1904, the Alliance Française de Vancouver (AFV) is a non-profit cultural
organization and registered charity dedicated to promoting French arts, culture, and language
in British Columbia. In 2025, the organization became the Alliance Française Canada Pacific
Society (AFCPS) following its amalgamation with the Alliance Française de Victoria (founded
in 1910), bringing together more than 120 years of history in support of Francophone and
intercultural dialogue in Western Canada.
In 2024, AFV opened in Vancouver a purpose-built, environmentally responsible cultural,
educational, and community centre featuring a professional theatre (165 seats), an art gallery,
artists’ studios, 16 classrooms, a media library, and flexible public spaces. This infrastructure
enables the organization to provide French classes to more than 4,000 students and
administer more than 4,000 French certifications each year. It also presents high-quality
artistic works while supporting creation, production, and audience engagement across all
disciplines. Nearly 12,000 audience members were welcomed there in 2025. At the beginning
of 2026, AF Victoria opened new classrooms by securing a long-term lease for the premises
and a comprehensive partnership agreement with the Société Francophone de Victoria.
